A Brown University-led team demonstrated ultrathin multiferroic films that retain ferroelectric and magnetic properties at thicknesses of just a few angstroms, overcoming the dead-layer effect in bismuth ferrite. The films also exhibited altermagnetic properties, potentially enabling low-power memory and logic devices.

Chinese Academy of Sciences-led researchers developed a III-nitride-based in-sensor computing device that uses interfacial polarization to separate photogenerated carriers and reduce recombination losses. The sensor-memristor achieved responsivity on the order of 10⁶ A/W, an on/off ratio of 10⁵, and maintained high performance at temperatures up to 300°C.

University of Oxford-led researchers identified a pseudo-direct semiconductor in bismuth sulfide that combines strong light absorption with slower electron–hole recombination. Its unusual electronic structure was estimated to reduce recombination rates by about 75% at room temperature compared with conventional semiconductors with similarly strong absorption, potentially improving solar-cell efficiency.

Security

MITRE’s CWE Program released CWE 5.0, adding new weaknesses, including Hardware Simulation/Synthesis Mismatch. The new hardware weakness covers security-relevant cases where RTL behaves differently after synthesis, potentially exposing data, altering protected state, or bypassing security controls in the resulting hardware.

The disclosures also cover privilege-escalation, key-exposure, memory-access, and command-injection flaws.
  • Keystone said a breach exposed a key used to authenticate its hardware wallets, potentially allowing counterfeit devices to pass authenticity checks. The company is destroying 18,835 unsold devices containing the compromised key.
