Celebrating 40 Years of Innovation: Lam Honored by the State of Carinthia in Austria

The Carinthian Coat of Arms celebrates Lam Research’s lasting impact on innovation, talent development, economic growth, and semiconductor technology, both in Austria and around the world.

Lam Research has received the right to bear the Carinthian Coat of Arms. The recognition marks a significant milestone for the company and highlights the role Villach has played in advancing semiconductor innovation for four decades.

The award was presented during a celebration at Lam's development and manufacturing site in Villach, attended by Austrian and regional leaders, including Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker, Governor Daniel Fellner, State Councillor Sebastian Schuschnig, and Villach Mayor Günther Albel.

A Recognition of Long-Term Impact

The Carinthian Coat of Arms is among the highest distinctions granted by the State of Carinthia. It recognizes organizations that have made meaningful contributions to the region through innovation, economic development, education, sustainability, and community engagement.

For Lam, the honor reflects decades of investment in talent, technology, and manufacturing excellence. Over the years, the company’s Villach team has helped shape Carinthia into a globally recognized center for semiconductor expertise, supporting customers around the world while creating opportunities within the local community.

From Austrian Startup to Global Semiconductor Leadership

Lam’s history in Austria began in 1986 with the founding of SEZ, a pioneer in single-wafer cleaning technology. Following Lam Research’s acquisition of SEZ in 2008, the company’s Austrian operations continued to grow and expand.

Today, Villach serves as Lam’s global center of expertise for clean and wet processing technologies. These capabilities are essential for enabling semiconductor manufacturers to build increasingly sophisticated devices used in artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and next-generation digital infrastructure.

The company’s Austrian footprint now extends beyond Villach to Salzburg, home to Lam’s Panel-Level Packaging Center of Excellence. Together, these locations contribute to the development of technologies that support semiconductor manufacturing worldwide.

The Carinthian Coat of Arms joins another significant recognition received in recent years. In 2024, the City of Villach granted Lam the right to bear the Villach Coat of Arms in recognition of the company’s contributions to the community and local economy.

Together, these honors reflect the strong relationship between Lam and the region it has called home for 40 years.
