AI overview

In late May 2026, the First Chamber of the Munich Regional Court ruled that summaries generated by Google's AI Overviews constitute the company's own content, and that Google must be held liable for misstatements within them. Subsequently, on September 24, 2026, the Aachen Regional Court issued an injunction on the same grounds. According to The Decoder, two German courts have now both found that Google must take responsibility for false content generated by its AI Overviews and AI Mode, on the grounds that such AI-generated content is regarded as Google's own content. Current status: both courts have issued rulings against Google, with the Aachen court having already issued an injunction.
