Perplexity launches its own take on AI agents for work

AI introduction

Perplexity has launched Teammates, persistent AI agents for work that can take on multiple roles in a workspace and collaborate on ongoing work at scale, similar to OpenAI's Dots and Claude Duet. Teammates run on Perplexity Computer, with progress viewable in separate in-app threads and interaction supported in Slack. The feature requires the $200 / month Max subscription plan.

Perplexity is taking on OpenAI and Anthropic with its own work-focused AI agents. The startup’s new always-on “Teammates” can take on multiple roles within a workspace, while pulling existing projects, skills, and memory from the Perplexity tools you already use.

Teammates integrate with Perplexity Computer, an AI system that can deploy agents on your device to complete tasks. But Perplexity says Teammates “build on top” of Computer by offering the ability to collaborate and complete “ongoing, large-scale work.” You can assign each Teammate different jobs that they can perform simultaneously — much like OpenAI’s Dots and Claude Duet. Perplexity’s take on the feature is much more expensive, however, as it requires a subscription to its $200 / month Max plan.

Each Teammate gets their own thread.

Perplexity notes that you can keep tabs on Teammates’ progress through individual threads in the Perplexity app, as well as interact with them in Slack. “Over time, we envision every org having hundreds of teammates working for each person,” Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas says on X.
