Measuring the impact of learning with AI in Sierra Leone and beyond

Google DeepMind has released results of a pre-registered trial in Sierra Leone: after eight weeks of using Guided Learning, students' math scores improved by +0.258 standard deviations versus the control group, equivalent to about 1.2 to 1.7 years of typical learning progress; classes where teachers integrated Gemini into about half of lessons, reaching the 12-hour target, progressed even more, about 1.8 to 2.5 years.
