Google is paying almost no publishers almost nothing for content used in AI answers

According to The Information, Google is paying about 100 publishers for their content for use in AI Overviews, AI Mode and Gemini. Small sites earn less than $1,000 over months, while some publishers earn over $1 million a year; the payment mechanism is opaque and changes month to month.
