Designing synthetic datasets for the real world: Mechanism design and reasoning from first principles

Google Research has published a paper in TMLR introducing Simula, a reasoning-first synthetic data generation framework. Drawing on mechanism design, it breaks data generation into four controllable axes — global diversity, local diversity, complication and dual-critic quality checks — without needing seed data.
